Qatargas hosted the second Steering Committee Meeting for the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Qatar Section chaired by Sheikh Faisal bin Fahad Al-Thani. The meeting was held at Qatargas’ Doha Head Office on Tuesday, 5 May 2015.
To welcome all the committee members, Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Thani, Qatargas Chief Operating Officer Engineering and Ventures said, "We are very pleased to host the second SPE Qatar Section Committee and welcome all the members to our offices. This is a great opportunity to once more bring together the industry experts to share knowledge and best practices while at the same time to continue developing SPE Qatar Section Strategic Plans and discuss all organisational issues. At Qatargas we are also proud of our women engineers and the role they play within our team and fully support the SPE in promoting women professionals to network and develop their careers in this field.”
Qatargas is an active SPE Qatar Section Steering Committee member and sponsor of SPE Qatar Section Activity as well as an active supporter of the various activities and events organised by SPE International. During the meeting SPE Qatar Section Strategic Plans, end of the Year Event and Events Schedule were discussed in length among many other topics.
The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) has more than 143,000 members in 147 countries participating in 199 section and 337 university chapters and they are united by the SPE vision to enable the global oil and gas exploration and production industry to share technical knowledge needed to meet the world's energy needs in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
In Qatar, there are over 500 professional members and over 200 student members at Qatar University and Texas A&M University, Qatar. As one of many sections worldwide, SPE Qatar Section's mission is to collect, disseminate and exchange technical knowledge concerning the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources, and related technologies for the public benefit; and to provide opportunities for professionals to enhance their technical and professional competence.
